Mission Beach isn’t one town. Its four coastal villages stretched along 14 kilometres of beach: South Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach, Mission Beach Village, and Bingil Bay. One main road connects them all, and these maps will help you find your way around.
If you’re staying at Tropical Hibiscus Caravan Park, you’re based at Wongaling Beach with shops, cafes, and the sand all within walking distance.
This map of Mission Beach area shows all four villages and how they connect. The main road (Tully Mission Beach Road) runs north-south, with beaches on the eastern side and rainforest to the west.
Most visitors are surprised by how spread out the area is. It’s about 15 minutes to drive from South Mission Beach to Bingil Bay. You can also see Dunk Island sitting just 4km offshore, with the ferry departing from Clump Point at the northern end.
Zooming out on a Mission Beach map Australia-wide, you’ll find us on the Cassowary Coast in Far North Queensland. We’re about 140km south of Cairns and 235km north of Townsville, right where the Wet Tropics rainforest meets the Coral Sea.
It’s one of the closest mainland access points to the Great Barrier Reef, with the outer reef just 40km offshore.
From Cairns: About 2 hours south via the Bruce Highway. Turn off at El Arish (more direct) or Tully.
From Townsville: About 2.5 hours north via the Bruce Highway. Turn off at Tully.

Wongaling Beach has the main shopping strip (Woolworths, pharmacy, medical centre). Mission Beach Village has beachfront cafes and the market area. This is the most practical map for planning your day-to-day.

Mission Beach is the Cassowary Capital of Australia, and we’ve put together a map of spots where cassowaries are regularly seen.
Your best chances are early morning or late afternoon on the rainforest walking tracks. Lacey Creek Walk and Licuala Day Use Area are popular spots. Cassowaries also wander through residential areas, along roadsides, and occasionally right through our caravan park.

On any map of Mission Beach QLD, you’ll find us on the Cassowary Coast, about 140km south of Cairns. The area sits where the Wet Tropics rainforest meets the Coral Sea, with Dunk Island visible 4km offshore.

The four villages stretch across approximately 14km of coastline. It’s about a 5-minute drive between each village, or around 15 minutes from South Mission Beach to Bingil Bay.
It is possible to walk between most villages along the beach at low tide. At high tide, however, there is very little beach exposed and a couple of inlets are not crossable, so through access along the sand is not available at those times.
Wongaling Beach sits in the centre of the four villages. It’s where you’ll find Woolworths, the pharmacy, and most everyday services. Tropical Hibiscus Caravan Park is located here, right on the main road.
Yes, but beach access between villages is only possible at low tide. At high tide, much of the beach is submerged and several inlets are not crossable.
There are also walking options along the main road and local paths. From Tropical Hibiscus at Wongaling Beach, it’s a 2-minute walk to Woolworths, 5 minutes to the beach, and about 30–40 minutes along the sand to Mission Beach Village at low tide.
